Reproductive Medical Center

The reproductive medicine center began in 1980s as the department of reproductive endocrinology and was denominated as the center of assisted reproductive technology of Zhejiang province by the Ministry of Health of Zhejiang Province in 1997, which became one of the first admittance to carry through programs of assisted reproductive technology by the National Ministry of Health in 2001. As home to The Zhejiang Provincial Women Hospital, the center is best known for its work with couples facing infertility. All of our medical staff have experienced formal training in this specialized field, as well as in general obstetrics and gynecology. The center has more than 11 specialists or professors, in which,two doctoral professors and two master tutors. The center grew from a strong foundation in scientific and clinical research, which remains one of our highest priorities. The link between research and patient care ensures that new technologies are readily available to our patients. The Central Mission is not only to provide high quality health care for infertility couples and women with disorders that affect the reproductive and/or endocrine systems, but also educate the lay and professional communities on current evaluation and treatment of reproductive disorders and the role of ART in their treatment;besides above, developing research initiatives to enhance the understanding of infertility issues is our central affairs at all times. The Center was awarded the prizes of progress in technology at ministerial and provincial levels. In the recent 10 years, 2 thesis have been collected by SCI, 23 thesis published on Chinese journal and 80 thesis published on other national core journals or communicated on international or national conferences. Center on going research projects include those for the Ministry of Health, the Natural Science Fund of Zhejiang Province, the Scientific Research Fund by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education of Zhejiang Province. Successful History In later 1980s, this department is the first department of Zhejiang province to launch the therapy of hypothalamal Amenorrhea with GnRH, ovarian stimulation with clomiphene, serious polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS),OHSS and so on. The laparoscopy and hysteroscopy are widely used to find the causes of infertility and treat abnormalities, endometriosis and pelvic adhesions. In these years, this department has achieved dramatic developments in assisted reproductive technology (ART). Since 1994, this department has constinously succeeded in in vitro fertilization, gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT), zygote intrafallopian transfer (ZIFT), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), transvaginal multifetal pregnancy reduction, cryopreservation of embryos, embryo donor program, preimplantation genetic diagnosis, blastocyst culture , and oocyte in vitro maturation. Most of these programs have reached provincial and national advanced levels. In 1996 , selective reduction of multifetal pregnancies is to achieve success in our department. Multifetal pregnancy reduction (MFPR) has clearly improved the outcomes of multifetal gestations. Fetal reduction increases the chance of a mother having one or two healthy babies instead of a miscarriage or very premature delivery of three or more babies who are much more likely to die or to suffer from long-term disability. Cryopreservation is the ability to freeze and store excess embryos for future use. If a pregnancy does not result from the initial cycle, cryopreserved embryos can be used for future cycles. Therefore the expense of the next cycle is economized. This process can increase the success pregnancy rate of the single egg-retrieval operation. For the sake of above reason and being convenient to open the other new item of ART techniques as to embryo donor program, and so on, our department started to research this technique in 1997 and successfully used for clinic in that year for the first time in the Zhejiang provision. Now our success rates for Cryoembryo Transfer (CET) are among the highest in the country and in the world. The Center was awarded the prize of progress in technology of frozen-thawed embryo transfer at provincial levels. We successfully developed Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) in 1999, and also operate micropuncture retrieval of epididymal or testicular sperm in obstructive male infertility . The endoscopic techniques are performed in our hospital early. Laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures and others are available to diagnosis and treat various reproductive disorders. Sampling procedures comprise tubal reconstruction, laparoscopic of lysis of adhesion, repair and tubal ligation reversal, Hysteroscopic resection and reconstruction of intrauterine abnormalities, fulguration and removal of endometriosis via laparoscopy, by these minimally invasive surgery, many patients acquired pregnancies. At the present time, our departments turn into the only center that could perform all kinds of the latest ART in stability state in Zhejiang province. Each year, more than 300 babies were born by our ART techniques in our center. We have been the leading-edge success pregnancy rate in the nation. We set up out-patient service and hospitalization department for sterile infertility couple. There are 46-bed in ward. It benefits the patients maximumly. Our center is the only Reproductive Medicine ones in the whole country that establishes the hospitalization department. The out-patient department is provided with 4 separate domestic diagnostic rooms, each with 18 square meter. The out-patient and hospitalization department opene, each work day (from Monday to Friday ). Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays are reserved for ultrasound monitoring, intrauterine inseminations, egg retrievals and embryo transfers. Those with urgent medical or surgical conditions are seen promptly. Finally, patients are always returned to their obstetricians and gynecologists for follow-up management of their pregnancies, or other gynecologic issues.
