Neonatology

The Department of Neonatology was set up in 1990.It has 25 beds, a medical staff of 29, including 2 Chief Physicians, 2 Associate Chief Physicians , 2 attending doctors and 4 residents. It provides medical service in NICU, postnatal wards, follow-up clinic, and is responsible for neonatal resuscitation in the delivery room and operation room. It is also engaged in medical research and teaching in neonatal-perinatal medicine. More than 1500 high-risk newborns are treated every year.

Since 1990, some well-known neonatologists at home and abroad have been invited as advisors of the department. In 2001, a newly constructed NICU, which is equipped with modern intensive care facilities and lamina air flow system, was put into operation. The in-patient laboratory in the department can offer fast and micro-volume measurements of blood glucose, blood gas, electrolytes, serum bilirubin, hematocrit, and C-reactive protein, etc. With the specially trained medical staff and modern medical equipment, the department is able to provide continuous intensive care service for critically ill newborns 24 hours a day.
