General Introduction

The nursing department, Women's Hospital School of Medicine Zhejiang University, is an open-minded, creative, practical and upward team. Its staff numbers 387 nurses and midwives, including 15 chief nurses, 124 in charge of nurses, and 248 nurses respectively.161 nurses have earned their nursing diploma and 23 nurses have granted bachelor degrees. 226 nurses are chasing for their higher degrees of nursing. The highly qualified and well-educated nursing staff plays a vital role in improving Obstetrics and Gynecologic nursing care. With many rich experienced experts having the highest academic and technological level, the department is a consult center of Obstetric and Gynecologic care in the whole province. It is in charge of nursing staff training, nursing administration, prevention of women diseases and family planning education. Nursing routines on gynecologic surgery, high-risk pregnancy, painless labor, maternal and newborn care have been established. Our aim of nursing is "Customer-orientated and Quality-focused". Based on holistic care, the department emphasized on special care in Obstetrics and Gynecology. In order to fully show its individual nursing care, the department has established many customer service such as pregnancy and mothering school, VIP wards, Doulas program, painless abortion and labor, telephone consultation, family visiting etc. As the first "Baby Friendly Hospital" and a training center of breastfeeding education in Zhejiang province, the department has assisted primary and secondary hospitals with related knowledge and technology. The department is one of the pioneers in technology of newborn massage in China and is transferring the new technology to other health workers. To develop and explore new technology in nursing, the department recently paid more attention to nursing research. More than forty papers have been published on national first class journals. The processing researches are involved the followings: promoting maternal and infant health, increasing the rate of vaginal delivery and breastfeeding, spreading newborn massage and infant growth, improving life quality for post-operative patients, managing cancer and operative pain in obstetrics and gynecology, caring assistant reproductive patients and investigating prospective nursing teaching. Teaching group of nursing in the department has excellent teachers, bears various teaching tasks e.g. developing teaching materials, bridging course of undergraduates from Zhejiang University and involving self-education program. More than 1000 undergraduates come to the department for clinical practice and over 50 visitors come for further training. Our service is based on humanity, which embodies the modern nursing conception of keeping health, health education and self-nursing. To provide health service excellent in caring, quality and innovation for women and infants, we will continue to improve technology and quality of nursing service so as to offer them diverse needs.
